We will need to start on our new year’s resolutions once we have worked our way through your generosity.
Here are some resolutions to consider for your pets:
Are you feeding your pet correctly with a balanced cat, rabbit or dog food? This includes measuring out the correct amount for your pet. If your dog is over 7 years old or your cat over 8 years, have you considered moving onto a senior food, or one with extra joint supplements?
Buy your pet the best quality food you can afford as this will ensure less health problems and less vet bills.
Even in winter your pets still need to exercise – no matter if they are a dog, cat or smaller pet. Keeping them trim over the winter months has wonderful health benefits. The saying is true – if exercise were a pill, it would be one of the most cost-effective drugs ever invented!

We are fortunate to have the wonderful Melton Country Park in our town, but why not venture out to the surrounding villages with your dogs? New smells and sights mean that they may venture further and gain more from the experience.
If you have decided to start running, use your dog as an incentive to get you out every day.
We all love to treat our pets (vets are not immune and we also love to indulge our own animals!) If your dog is already overweight, try feeding healthier options such as carrots or rice cakes as treats.
Include any treats given to your pet in the total calorie count of the day, so reduce their food bowl amounts if more treats are given on certain days.

Make sure your pet’s vaccinations are up to date and you are worming and treating for fleas regularly. Make use of the stickers supplied by most flea manufacturers and keep these as reminders on your 2020 calendars.
